Abstract

 

BACKGROUND. There is a limited tradition of using films in healthcare education, although it is constantly developing. Further, to understand complex concepts, such as vulnerability and resilience, is fundamental to improving nursing education.


OBJECTIVE. This study aims to explore how a combined approach, using films and expert patients, could influence nursing education on the topics of vulnerability and resilience. Methods. A qualitative descriptive study was carried out. Reflective writings of eight bache- lor's degree students during the first semester of the second year were analysed through a con- tent analysis methodology.

RESULTS. Two main themes emerged: 1) To face up to vulnerability through resilience expe- riences, with three sub-themes: active behaviours to cope with disability; carrying the heavy load of vulnerability; using resilience as a new beginning; 2) Students' difficulties and perspec- tives on caring vulnerable people, with two sub-themes: awkwardness of facing vulnerability; and walk together to overcome disability

CONCLUSIONS: The use of films, enhanced by the lived experiences of expert patients, would improve the learning in the new generation of nursing students that are actually more involved in the use of innovative learning strategies. The adoption of new ways to teach complex con- cepts to bachelor degree nursing students is pivotal to simplify theories and to establish a posi- tive connection between nursing students and educators. The education system should consi- der that, only through emotionally strong educational strategies, is possible to foster an endu- ring emotional knowledge in students.

Insegnare la resilienza e la vulnerabilità agli studenti infermieri attraverso l'utilizzo di film: uno studio qualitativo


INTRODUZIONE. Per comprendere concetti complessi, come la vulnerabilitaÌ€ e la resilienza, è neces- sario usare metodologie didattiche diverse dalle semplici lezioni frontali. L'utilizzo dei film e di pazienti esperti a supporto della formazione degli studenti infermieri, sebbene in costante sviluppo.

OBIETTIVO. Esplorare come la visione di film e la partecipazioni di pazienti esperti alle lezioni possa contribuire all'insegnamento dei concetti di resilienza e vulnerabilità agli studenti infermieri. Metodi. E' stata condotta un'analisi qualitativa descrittiva. Le narrazioni riflessive di otto studenti iscritti al secondo anno del Corso di Laurea in Infermieristica, prodotte durante un'attività didat- tica opzionale condotta nel corso del primo semestre, sono state analizzate utilizzando un'analisi del contenuto.

RISULTATI. Dall'analisi sono emersi due temi principali: 1) Affrontare la vulnerabilità ricorrendo alla resilienza, con tre sotto-temi: i comportamenti attivi per fronteggiare la disabilità, portare il peso relativo alla vulnerabilità e utilizzare la resilienza come un nuovo inizio; 2) Le difficoltà degli studenti e le prospettive di assistere persone vulnerabili, con due sotto-temi: il disagio di affrontare la vulnerabilità e percorrere insieme la strada per superare la disabilità.

CONCLUSIONI. L'utilizzo dello strumento filmico, potenziato dall'esperienza personale dei pazienti esperti, puoÌ€ essere utile nella formazione delle nuove generazioni di studenti infermieri, dal momento che sono i maggiormente coinvolti dall'uso di strategie innovative di apprendimento. L'adozione di nuovi metodi di insegnamento per i concetti complessi negli studenti del Corso di Laurea in Infermieristica è essenziale per semplificare teorie e stabilire una connessione positiva tra studenti e docenti. L'uso di strategie educative emotivamente significative puoÌ€ stimolare una cono- scenza emozionale duratura negli studenti.
